Little Explorer Trips

Welcome to the corner of Recess & Runaway where it’s just me and my 5-year-old, hopping buses, packing snacks, and proving that meaningful adventures don’t have to wait for a full family lineup or perfect timing.

These are our Little Explorer Trips: day escapes from Monteverde after a week of lesson plans, simple overnight stays where we high-five over managing bedtime in a new place, and regional wanderings that fit into a teacher’s schedule and budget. It’s the two of us figuring things out as we go, getting a little lost, and being quietly (okay, loudly) proud that we did it ourselves.

If you’re parenting solo, co-parenting from afar, or just the one who usually travels with the kids while your partner stays home, you’re in the right place. Here you’ll find stories, itineraries, and real talk about riding buses with backpacks bigger than your kid, finding kid-friendly fun in small Costa Rican towns, and making space for joy in the middle of real life. Pull up a chair, subscribe if you want to follow along, and feel free to share your own little explorer wins too.
